Welcome to the Employment Opportunities page here at Skinny Devil Music Lab, the web-home of award-winning guitarist David M. McLean. I am David's partner in cyber-space. You, like Ben, Seth, & Joe, can be David's partner in corporeal-space as a recording engineer, guitar instructor, or promotional assistant. I work for free, but you will not. You will learn about various aspects of the music business, lead an exciting career, and make money in the process. Enjoy.

You want a career? Here's a door...."Howdy, folks.
First, I want to welcome Seth Crawford (GA) and (NJ) to Skinny Devil Music Lab. They have signed on as promotional assistants (Seth doing part-time "special projects"; Joe specializing in internet marketing & sales). Wanna learn the biz & earn some cash? Read on, brothers & sisters!
A lot of mail comes my way requesting information about jobs, so here is the scoop: Skinny Devil Music Lab is a small operation dedicated to quality work in music production & education. Peruse the site to see what we're all about....but to sum it up, my business philosophy is a bit backwards, considering the currently dominant schema of "Balance quality against market viability and then charge as much as the market will reasonably bear.". By contrast, my philosophy is, "Top quality job and make it as affordable as possible.". I also want to make sure those doing the work are paid a fair wage. I starved too many years to leave you guys out!
Positions we hope to be filling soon:
Recording Engineers
It is my sincerest hope to get a commercial studio in operation within the next 12 months. Engineers will be contracted and have the opportunity to do the work that pleases them within the confines of our technology and low pricing structure. The idea here is to offer a more affordable solution to bands & musicians than the current market finds; a recording environment that they will find enjoyable, productive, & educational.Positions we are filling :Guitar Instructors
2008 UP-DATE: We now have quite a few instructors in our network in the Lexington area, and several pending not only in Kentucky, but in several states plus Canada, Europe, and Japan. Visit the Guitar Instructor Network page for details. We're setting up a small network of teachers using the Skinny Devil instructional method who pass playing & teaching requirements (at least Silver [level-2] criteria; see "Awards for Guitar Excellence"). In my neck of the woods, you'll receive a student roster and decent pay; beyond my locale you'll receive teaching materials & business support. All instructors will have access to my Student Awards program, student recitals, student recording opportunities, and the like. Be sure you secure the Silver level before applying (unless you want specific training to achieve that level).
I'm also searching for Richmond & Lexington area instructors to sub for me when I'm away doing gigs (performances, clincs, workshops, etc.). Again, be sure you have secured the Silver level before applying, please. Lesson plans provided; flat daily rate based on hours teaching.
***Note***: I now have several substitute teachers, and several teachers-in-training. The Skinny Devil Guitar Teacher Network will soon have it's own page featuring instructors' names, locations, contact info, and current certified status. If you're interested in becoming a part of the network, drop me a line. The cost is extremely reasonable, and pays for access to the private awards programs, business-building materials, teacher certification, and the like.
Promotional Assistants
If you're in it for the cash, this is it....more money, but more work, too (although you'll largely set your own hours)! Not just local, but a network of motivated individuals who want to learn about various aspects of the music biz. As stated in my bio, we are "...offering commission-based opportunities for business-minded individuals to learn about all aspects of the music industry (from studio management to PR & marketing to bookings to distro to billing & collections, etc.) where their pay will reflect their efforts & where they can enable themselves to take the next step..." into whatever career they desire.Currently, Seth Crawford (GA) is handling special projects on a temporary basis, & Joe Volpe (NJ) is handling internet sales & marketing. Come join the team!
