Guitar Lessons
Quick word: The non-profit segment of my teaching biz (via the YMCA) is now being sponsored by Gibson Guitar's Gibson Foundation, who sent us a wad of cash and 10 guitars to help with programming, outreach initiatives, promotion, and the like. Thanx, Gibson!

If you are in Lexington (or central KY) and want to look into lessons with me or one of my certified instructors (private, group, or via clinics & workshops), you can contact me directly HERE (or at 859.420.2007) or visit our new GUITAR INSTRUCTOR page. If you are not in the Lexington, Kentucky area and need a qualified instructor in your area and can't find an SDML certified instructor on the above "instructor" page, visit Music Staff or Teach List .....OR you can contact me for personalized on-line instruction (this works for those with odd schedules, or living in an area with high local lesson rates, or who are interested in a specialized area of study in which I presumably excel).

If you are one of my students and need to get to the private student page, just contact me for the address....if you're trying to purchase my duo's debut CD, you can get it on-line: "AN ALIEN BLUE"

Below you'll find access to various FREE on-line guitar lessons. In addition, visit the "merchandise" section for new information, including my forth-coming lesson book, DVD series, player awards, teacher & player certificates, "how to build a business teaching guitar" booklettes, and more.

Guitar Trader & Music Power
Trek over to either MusicPower.Com or GuitarTrader.Com and you'll not only see re-prionts of many of the lessons available below, but also the "Run of the Month" series, which are short lessons that take a very brief look at a lick or riff or run or song structure of many fabulous players.
Insane Guitar Lesson Index
I have the pleasure of being a columnist for several guitar web-sites, including the award-winning instructional site "Insane Guitar", which offers monthly columns, master classes, jam trax, song tabs/notation, artist profiles & interviews, column archives, and more. I've written a quasi-monthly column, "Insanity 101", for IG since March of 2002, and have covered a wide array of topics and player styles.

Beginner Guitarist
This lesson is not intended to replace a qualified instructor, but to familiarize novices with the instrument and some basic concepts. Use this as a primer before beginning formal lessons or as a supplement to your formal lessons.

Guitar Clinics
I was fortunate enough to hook up with incredible players Philip High & Jerry Belsak in 2003/2004 for a series of performance clinics where we discussed technique, acoustic & electric approaches, effects, and the like. Below is the clinic literature.

 Zen Guitar
I wrote several pieces for Phil Sudo's "Zen Guitar" following an interview with Phil prior to his untimely death in June 2002. These are ideas presented primarily (though not exclusively) to my more advanced students over the years, typically with very positive results.

Resources
Several resources available (they get the Skinny Devil Stamp of Approval!) are the trainers at Ricci Adams' MusicTheory Net, the music games at Rob Tougher's site, a great article on chord theory by David Hamburger at Acoustic Guitar Magazine, and ANY books, CDs, DVDs, or on-line lessons by Troy Stetina (who has authored over 30 books for Hal Leonard!).

Also, my thanx to Steve at Guitar-Guitar & GuitarTrader, Rich at MoneyChords, Dave at 8notes.Com, and Alex at The Fusionsite for posting my lessons, and to Ben at The Shred Academy. For more free lessons (as well as gear info, shops, and more), visit the Skinny Devil Guitar Resources page.

Et Cetera
Earn the Skinny Devil Music Lab "Award for Guitar Excellence". The FREE web-certificate is self-awarded by meeting all the criteria, which is outlined here. Coming soon is the SDML player & teacher "Certificate of Guitar Excellence" (I will certify each applicant personally), which will be awarded based on a written knowledge test and a recorded skills test. See "merchandise" for details!

.............

Soon at Skinny Devil Music Labs, you will be able to access articles from "Sonic Dance and Secret Weapons (a study of the motives and methods in human music)" - which cover both harmonic and rhythmic consepts - and essays (like "The Art of Scalar Magic") as well as download a copy of, "Complete Book of Scales" (by me and W. Siddiqui)...all free of charge.

Finally, technical study is only part of one's development as a guitarist. Self-analysis via recording, performing, listening to the methods of other players, and more all assist in one's continuing improvement. In that spirit, be sure to read the "Guitar Gods" interview series.

These projects are offered FREE of charge as are many projects from Skinny Devil Music Lab. Please consider leaving a small tip to help support all past & future projects here. Thanx!

To support these & other lessons, feel free to leave tip!
